The blankets from the Standerton group of women were recently handed over in Fourways, Johannesburg, for the 67 Blankets for Mandela Day initiative.

“It was a wonderful experience and very informative going forward with the project,” said resident Sangeeta Daya.

“You can either knit or crochet 20cm squares, which get made into a blanket for the needy,” Daya said.

Daya facilitated a group of women to start knitting or crocheting a wool blanket for the initiative and is in awe of their accomplishments.

It all began when her husband, Nitin, and herself, were in the Fourways Mall in 2022 and saw blankets of different colours and patterns everywhere in the vast space.

The Standerton group of women are from different walks of life and a few were recently seen at the Junxion Centre, choosing wool and knitting away.

Daya described their get-togethers as fun-filled and fulfilling.

“I just love the energy emanating from the group. I had the opportunity of meeting amazing women,” she added.
