The long-awaited elections of May 29 are concluded, where political parties clamoured for attention on lamp poles and even trees, advocating their slogans.

Standerton was no exception and a drive on the busy main route, Beyers Naudé Street, gave food for thought.

With winter approaching at a rapid speed, residents of Ward 10 in the CBD received notification on May 30 that the Kieser Reservoir was in a stage of reparation.

Locals had to steel themselves between 08:00 and 17:00 with intermittent supply.

This gave weight to the belief that once elections were over, things would return to normal with water and electricity interruptions.

Before one could blink an eye, there was an interruption in electricity supply to several areas in both mid-town and Sakhile over the past week.

Lekwa Municipality dutifully notified locals and ward councillors and posted the information as soon as it became available.

On voting day, Standerton Town Hall, one polling station, had a line of voters waiting to cast their ballots.

According to Deon Bekker, DA councillor, residents were waiting as early as 06:15.

Wilma Venter, Freedom Front Plus councillor, encouraged supporters to vote and updated regularly on how fast the line was moving.
