Community, teachers pay last respect to Mgxekwa children from eMbalenhle

Hlelokuhle died in Ermelo Hospital on May 16, two days after his three-year-old sister, Samkelisiwe. She died at a clinic in eMbalenhle on May 14.

The Ext 22 community and teachers from Zamokuhle Primary School in eMbalenhle paid their last respects to two children who died after allegedly eating snacks a family friend bought from a tuck shop.

The memorial service was held at the Jericho Church in Ext 22 on May 27. The teachers came to say goodbye to Hlelokuhle Mgxekwa (six), a Grade One learner at the school.

The teachers said the school was shocked by Hlelokuhle’s passing and that his classmates were affected by the tragedy.

Constable Busi Mthethwa, the spokesperson for the eMbalenhle SAPS, said the police still await the forensic results to determine the cause of death.

Both children will be buried in Ludalasi Village in the Eastern Cape.
