Police arrest five truck hijackers near Bronkhorstspruit

A patrol dog apprehended one suspect who sustained bite wounds on his left arm and right leg. Another suspect, who was also hiding in the bushes, was also found by the dogs and was arrested.

A truck driver was hijacked by three men on May 17 on the N4 when the driver stopped to drop off a passenger.
The suspects, driving a white VW Golf, stopped next to him.

Constable Munyadziwa Cathrine Ramovha, communications officer for Bronkhorstspruit said the suspects began banging on the truck door, instructing the driver to open it. The driver contacted his employer.

Colonel Matthys Strydom, the branch commander of the Bronkhorstspruit detectives and also a special task force member, drove past and witnessed what happened.

He activated additional support comprising of the Bronkhorstspruit K9, Pretoria K9, Bronkhorstspruit detectives, special task force, metro police and Kapanga Security. The hijackers ran into a field when they saw the task force members.

“A patrol dog apprehended one suspect who sustained bite wounds on his left arm and right leg. He was taken to Bronkhorstspruit Hospital for medical treatment. Another suspect, hiding in the bushes, was also found by the dogs and was arrested,” said Ramovha.

The team arrested five suspects. Strydom thanked the team for their rapid response.
