The municipality is appealing to the public to contact the police with information that could assist in finding the person responsible for this incident.

Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) employees found the body of a baby stuck inside a sewer hole in Ext 16, known as Mandela in eMbalenhle on May 21.

The municipal workers were conducting maintenance when they made this gruesome discovery.

According to information posted on the municipality’s social media page, it is still unclear whether the body is that of a fully developed foetus, a stillborn child or a baby who died after birth.

The municipality is appealing to the public to contact the police with information that could assist in finding the person responsible for this incident.

The body of a baby was found clogging up a sewage drain pipe in eMbalenhle.

GMM has in the past warned the community not to discard foreign objects into the manholes, because it leads to rampant sewage spillages.

The police in eMbalenhle also want the community’s help to arrest those performing illegal abortions.

According to Constable Busi Mthethwa, the eMbalenhle police spokesperson, they discover foetuses weekly in eMbalenhle.

Mthethwa said at times, they get two or three foetuses in a week, confirming a serious problem.
