SAPS speak to learners at school in Zithobeni

The SAPS searched a school in Zithobeni and taught the learners about the problems arising in schools.

The Bronkhorstspruit SAPS embarked on a School Safety Awareness Campaign on May 15 at Vezulwazi Primary School in Zithobeni, Bronkhorstspruit.

The people involved in this campaign were from the office of the Visible Policing commander, Colonel Sibonisile Mlaba, and the Department of Community Safety Ambassadors.

Increasing the learners’ knowledge of bullying, theft, drug and substance misuse, cybercrime, and gangsterism was the campaign’s aim.

Bullying occurs when an individual (or group of people) repeatedly and intentionally causes harm to another person (or group of people) who is unable to avoid being targeted.

The teachers and the police talk to the learners.

Bullying can include physical bullying (hitting, tripping, damaging property) and verbal bullying (insults, teasing, intimidation).

Bullying can cause social isolation, which means the victims have fewer friends, making it difficult to interact or create and maintain relationships.

Bullied teenagers find it difficult to trust people because they feel these new people are just potential bullies.

The school management is worried about learners who bring cigarettes and alcohol to school.

The SAPS cautioned the learners not to participate in criminal activities because it could affect their futures.
