eMbalenhle family needs help to bury siblings who died earlier this month

eMbalenhle Police opened two inquest dockets after both children died on different days. Claims were made that the children allegedly consumed snacks that a family friend bought from a tuck shop in Ext 22 on May 14.

The family of the two children from eMbalenhle who allegedly died after consuming snacks needs assistance to bury them.

Ntombixolo Mgxekwa, the children’s grandmother, told the Ridge Times they needed help to bury Samkelisiwe Mgxekwa (3) and Hlelokuhle Mgxekwa (5).

Mgxekwa said they would appreciate assistance with the memorial service where the eMbalenhle community can pay their last respect to the toddlers.

The family plans to bury the children in the Eastern Cape on June 1.

“We also need transport to the Eastern Cape,” she said.

Samkelisiwe was rushed to and died at the Paulina Morapeli Clinic on May 14, while Hlelokuhle was admitted to and died days later at Ermelo Hospital.

According to Constable Busi Mthethwa, the eMbalenhle police spokesperson, post-mortems were conducted on both children.

The snacks that had allegedly caused their deaths have been confiscated from the tuck shop and taken to the police’s forensic laboratory.

Mthethwa said the investigators are not drawing any conclusions on the cause of death until they have the laboratory’s results.
