Standerton Police apprehend alleged diesel thief

According to the SAPS, he poured diesel into 20l containers, paid with a cloned card, and drove off in a white Isuzu bakkie.

The Standerton Police recently arrested Sibonelo Gumbi (31) in connection with theft, fraud and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Gumbi appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on April 26 and was remanded in custody. The case was postponed to May 3 for confirmation of his address and a bail application.

According to the SAPS, he poured diesel into 20l containers, paid with a cloned card, and drove off in a white Isuzu bakkie.

The bakkie was impounded with the accused still on the run with the key.

The vehicle, with 650l of diesel, was taken to the police station and Standerton case 236/04/2024 was opened.
Gumbi is from Mahlabathini in KZN.

The investigating officer is Constable MC Ngwenya.
