Beware of fraudsters wanting money for job opportunities in Standerton

“Employment opportunities are only advertised in the mainstream media and via the departmental website: https://www.dcs.gov.za/?page_id=52.”

It has come to the attention of the Department of Correctional Services, Bethal Management Area, that scammers continue to prey on vulnerable citizens looking for jobs.

According to Siphiwe Mahlangu, communications manager, scammers are enticing job hunters with appointment letters if they make transactions as a guarantee for securing permanent employment.

The department warned job seekers of scammers selling application forms and requesting payment as a guarantee to secure employment. They emphasised job opportunities are free in the department.

“This department does not require any payment for applying for employment,” Mahlangu said.

“Employment opportunities are only advertised in the mainstream media and via the departmental website: https://www.dcs.gov.za/?page_id=52.”

Mahlangu said the department has no contract with recruitment or placement agents or social media platforms.

“Those posing as consultants or using online media platforms to advertise and/or facilitate job opportunities are fraudsters who negatively impact the department’s recruitment process. Therefore, the department regards such a criminal offence in a serious light. Perpetrators will be brought to book and face the might of the law.”

The department urges the public to report these fraudsters to law enforcement agencies.

The department also requested anyone with information to contact the anti-corruption hotline 0800 701 701.
