More than 100 runners participate in Standerton parkrun

Siyabonga Kamhelo crossed the finish line in a time of 17:38, followed by Bongane Mpokane who recorded 18:32.

Run director Elmien Vermaak did the countdown at the parkrun on January 13 at 08:00 for 102 participants to take on the 5km.

Her husband, Frans, had to control their dog Luka, who did not enjoy hearing her amplified voice. Rounds of applause followed for the volunteers, first-timers and those reaching milestones.

Both John van der Voort and Johan Draper participated in their 25th event. This free event at the Standerton River Park offers runners, joggers and walkers the opportunity to compete against themselves.

Altogether nine athletes improved their times and 10 new faces were seen. The woman’s record is held by Chrizell Roberts and the men’s by Katleho Samuel.

Thapelo Mahlangu registered 20:17, Kaywen Human 21:08, Timothy Hoop 22:27and Janke Draper 25:58 in her 50th event.

Wassie Rossouw came in at 26:35, Rodrique van der Voort at 26:41, Patrick Tsotetsi at 27:06 and Delaney Grobbelaar at 27:15, in her 50th event. Parth Jayram ended with a time of 27:50.
