Sasol hosts festive soccer and netball tournament in eMbalenhle

Sasol Juventus are the U13 winners.

Sasol hosted the festive season inaugural Senior Vice President Soccer and Netball Tournament at the Sasol Community Recreation Centre in eMbalenhle on December 9.

Sasol, in partnership with the South African Football Association and Gert Sibande Netball, encouraged the youth to take part in recreational activities during the holiday season.

They divided the soccer leg of the tournament into women’s soccer and boys’ U13 categories. Men and women teams competed on the netball court.

The Sasol Juventus was the winner of the U13 boys category after beating the Secunda M Stars 6-5 in penalties.

The Storm Ladies team won the women’s soccer category of the tournament. A similar tournament was successfully played in Wentworth, Durban on December 2.

These fun-filled family events are part of Sasol’s ongoing support of sporting activities at the grassroots level.

In Wentworth, the tournament was a response to Wentworth’s newly formed civil organisation, Changing Our Behaviour to Unite (Cobtu).

Cobtu asked Sasol to help the community with a public platform to create an awareness of alcohol and drug abuse among the youth.

Sasol’s support extends to providing training equipment to community teams competing at various levels, upgrading school playgrounds, hosting the yearly Sasol sports weekend, the children’s sports festival, the holiday programme, créches day, senior citizens sports day, the Sasol soccer and netball social leagues and the Sasol 5-A-Side soccer tournaments.
