Nearly 100 participants line up for Standerton parkrun

Amid encouragement from the volunteers at the finish line, Siyabonga Kamhelo came in at an improved time of 16:24, with Tshiamo Lephoto close on his heels a second later.

Run director, Charl van Wyk did the honours of getting 94 participants out of the blocks on January 6 at 08:00.

The Standerton River Park hosts this free event, offering runners, joggers and walkers the opportunity to compete against themselves.

A round of applause followed the announcement of first-timers entering the distance of 5km.

Amid encouragement from the volunteers at the finish line, Siyabonga Kamhelo came in at an improved time of 16:24, with Tshiamo Lephoto close on his heels a second later.

Sinkho Mzizi completed the distance in 19:20, a new personal best, followed by Kaywen Human who registered 20:51 and Timothy Hoop 22:02.

Kutloano Tsotetsi recorded 23:32, while Chrizell Roberts ran her 50th in 25:02. Welcome Ndlangisa ran a new personal best of 25:09, followed by Juma Kadar’s 25:15.

Rodrique van der Voort crossed the finish line in 26:14 and Wassie Rossouw in 26:40. The parkrun is made possible by volunteers who are deployed at certain strategic points.
