Runners take on parkrun in Secunda

This was Secunda parkrun #370 and 210 parkrunners walked, jogged or ran the 5km route.

A whopping 210 parkrunners took to Secunda parkrun on September 9. Combined, the 210 parkrunners completed 13 335 parkruns at Secunda’s 370th run. Tania Wimberley, Busisiwe Magqabi and Ansie Van Schalkwyk were the first three women to cross the finish line.

The first three men to finish were Pienaar Jansen van Rensburg, Wege Viljoen and Dirk van den Heever. The following parkrunners are congratulated on their best time running Secunda parkrun.

They are Mischán Schoonwinkel 0:22:44, Cobus Campher 0:24:14, Rorisang Ntoi 0:25:51, Werner de la Guerre 0:27:13, Mashel Gonyora 0:28:35, Sibusiso Mazibuko 0:28:53, Mmakgabo Masopa 0:30:42, Thabani Madela 0:31:22, Stoffel Coetzer 0:31:55, Yolande Pietersen 0:33:05, Hendrik Schoeman 0:33:46, Tebogo Motloutsi 0:34:57, Huda Adams 0:36:37, Rochel Clarke 0:39:29 and Cornea Voljoen 0:42:43, Wian Strauss 0:44:40, Frans Maritz 0:44:47, Roelof Vermaak 0:45:01, Brendan Enslin 0:45:02, Jean-Pierre Fouche 0:45:32, Mel Botha 0:46:18, Hettie Glen 0:47:53, Alet De Waal 0:50:49, Mmaphefo Namane 0:51:45 and Jani Wahl 0:55:02.

Secunda parkrun also welcomed new members Simanye Tyhokolo, Yolelwa Tyhokolo, Braam Olivier, Dirk Smit, Jaco Linde, Nodumo Malinga, Regina Gottschalk and Boel Engelbrecht to the South African parkrun family.

Johan Viljoen was congratulated on joining the Green Milestone Club 250. He is the fifteenth member of Secunda parkrun to achieve it. Sophia Grobbelaar was the eldest parkrunner at the age of 81 years.

All together 215 athletes took part in the Secunda Parkrun on September 16 and Grobbelaar was once again the oldest parkrunner. She also completed her 320th parkrun.

Colin Louw was the first man to cross the finish line with Wege Viljoen who finished second and Ben Waters third.

Liane Parkes was the first woman to cross the finish line with Nicole Waters who finished second and Paulemari Uys third.

Hellen Nyandiko joined the black milestone club 100.

The spokesman of Secunda Parkrun thanked the volunteers, Jannie Botha, Kobus Botha, Rina Botha, San-Marie Cronje, Sophia Grobbelaar, Ettienne Kotze, Lettie le Roux, Louis le Roux, Mykayla Lumley, Jackie Minnie, Cecile Moore, Amelia Pretorius, Celia Reyneke, Petro Smit, Margie van Straaten, Riaan Venter, Hennie Viljoen and Wege Viljoen for their hard work and willingness to volunteer.

Anybody can volunteer and help to make the parkrun happen every Saturday.

Secunda parkrun takes off at 08:00 every Saturday. Runners, joggers and walkers meet at the green strip next to the Kruik Gemeente and Sasol Recreational Club.
