Silver and gold for Cullinan taekwon-do

ATC Cullinan entered 20 events and earned 17 medals, of which eight were gold, seven silver and one bronze.

Eight students from the Acestes Taekwon-Do Club in Cullinan participated in the South African Korean Martial Arts Association (Sakmaa) North Gauteng Provincial Tournament in East Lynne, Pretoria, on March 18.

The events were traditional patterns, traditional weapon patterns, point sparring, continuous sparring and combat weapon sparring.

The results were:
BSB Justin Collet received gold medals for traditional patterns, combat weapon sparring and point sparring.

Ryan Bosch took gold for traditional patterns, combat weapon sparring, and silver medals for point sparring and continuous sparring.

Suné Nortjé earned gold medals for traditional patterns and continuous sparring and a silver medal for advanced continuous sparring.

Leon van Rooyen got a gold medal for continuous sparring and a bronze medal for combat weapon sparring.

Zion Alexander received silver medals for traditional patterns, traditional weapon patterns and combat weapon sparring.

Ryan Stevenson went home with a silver medal for continuous sparring. Theuns Rossouw managed fourth place in traditional patterns.

“Special thanks to Cullinan Petra Mine for the community sports centre where our training takes place and to Naga Earthworks for all the weekends they make available for us to train,” said Collet.

“Everyone did exceptionally well, and we look forward to the next tournament on April 1, hosted in our hometown, Cullinan, at the Cullinan Sports Centre. We will then participate in the Tiny Tiger and Avengers Tournament.”
