WATCH: Vaal River in Standerton is overflowing

Emergency services are on high alert.

The Vaal River is overflowing its banks and Standerton and the surrounding area are underwater.

Sluices at the Grootdraai Dam have been opened.

Delta1 Rescue Diving, the Mpumalanga Inland Water Wing and ER24 have been dispatched to a rescue mission on a farm.

Emergency services are on high alert.

Marina Schoombee, journalist for the Standerton Advertiser, reports of electricity outages. Lekwa Municipality said the river level is flooding the Standerton Water Treatment Plant.

Water supply to all wards is affected. Lekwa is trying to find alternative ways to switch on the pumping units.
