eMbalenhle wins Best Police Station award at Gert Sibande District event

Brigadier Lizzy Mtungwa said these were the first awards after Covid-19 and the police’s transition from clusters to a district model.

Local police and their stations in the Gert Sibande District Police attended their awards on Thursday, November 10, at the Evander Club.

eMbalenhle Police Station received the award for the Best Performing Station award in the category where a colonel is in charge.

eMbalenhle also walked away with the awards for Detective and Forensic Service Employee of the Year and Outstanding Dedication which was won by the commander of the detective branch, Lieutenant-Colonel Andries Tshabalala.

Constable Busi Mthethwa received the award for the cleanest and neatest police officer in the visible police category.

Bethal Police Station received awards for the Community Policing Forum (CPF) of the Year first runner-up, the Best Performing Lieutenant Station second runner-up, and the Policeman of the Year award was won by the Bethal Police spokesperson, Sergeant Thomas Mogadime.

Sergeant Valentia Koma, Trichardt Police spokesperson won the Woman of the Year award. eMzinoni Police Station scooped the Best Visible Police and Support awards.

All 38 police stations in the Gert Sibande District which were formerly known as clusters, were awarded in different categories.

Brigadier Lizzy Mtungwa said these were the first awards after Covid-19 and the police’s transition from clusters to a district model.

Mtungwa said the purpose of the district awards is to encourage SAPS members to put more effort into their work. Secunda Police Station clinched awards in different categories.
