Ekangala Police recover unlicensed gun

The firearm, loaded with rounds, was discovered under the fridge in the suspect’s room.

A firearm was confiscated and a 48-year-old suspect was arrested in Ekangala on Friday, November 11.

According to a media statement released by the Ekangala Police, they received information about an unlicensed firearm.

Members then swiftly reacted and went to the suspect’s room in Ekangala.

A search was conducted which led to the discovery of the unlicensed firearm.

The firearm, loaded with rounds, was found under the fridge.

Ekangala acting station commander, Captain Moses Masondo, applauded Sergeant J Ntuli and Constable JD Ntuli for their swift and positive response.

“The station is committed to paying serious attention and to do its best to take down the proliferation of illegal firearms which is a countrywide problem,” said Masondo.

At the time of going to print, the suspect was due to appear before the Ekangala Magistrate’s Court for the contravention of the Firearms Act no. 60 of 2000.
