70 participants gear up for parkrun in Standerton

Volunteer Jennifer Naidoo reached the milestone of her 100th parkrun.

Tshiamo Lephoto was first over the line in the Standerton Parkrun and also set his personal best time on Saturday, October 1.

Lephoto, a favourite to win the weekly parkun at the Standerton River Park, completed the 5km in a new time of 16:06, and to celebrate, he did an extra victory lap.

A total of 70 participants took part on Saturday.

Katleho Samuel finished second in 16:45 followed by Sifiso Siphamandla in third place with a time of 18:46.

Chula Phago also set a new personal best time of 19:43, ending in fourth place. Mbuso Mazibuko was fifth with a time of 22:58.

The first woman home was junior runner Gabriella de Oliveira in 25:22. Altogether 14 participants improved their times and three new faces were registered.

Volunteer Jennifer Naidoo reached the milestone of her 100th parkrun. Being the sweeper, she was brought in with a banner and applause from her fellow volunteers.

Charl van Wyk, Elmien Vermaak, Frans Vermaak, Jennifer Naidoo, Johannes Vosloo, Lizette Jansen van Rensburg, Preyanka Dorasamy, Renette de Sousa, Ruwan Vermaak, Vusi Mavuso, Marjorie Uys and Pomesan Govender facilitated the event’s safety.
