Lekwa boosts small enterprises at Standerton Town Hall

Their focus is mainly on designated groups namely women, the youth and people with disabilities in the township and rural areas.

Lekwa Municipality handed over equipment to small businesses at the Standerton Town Hall on Wednesday, September 14.

It forms part of an incentive programme by the Department of Small Business Development to stimulate and facilitate competitive enterprises.

The department has various strategies to address the development void at the lower base of small, medium and micro enterprises.

According to their concept note, the strategy specifically targets entrepreneurs in the informal economy.

Their focus is mainly on designated groups namely women, the youth and people with disabilities in the township and rural areas.

The grant amount is a maximum of R10 000 to procure machine tools and equipment. A total of 33 informal businesses have been approved.

These enterprises are mostly operational in sectors such as hairdressing, sewing, baking, street trader catering, retail and services.

The executive mayor, Louis Delani Thabethe, addressed the audience in the town hall before the ceremonial handover.
