Wetnose near Bronkhorstspruit saves injured horse

Spartan still has a long road to recovery but the team has faith that he will be well soon.

Wetnose is fighting actively to save a beautiful gelding that was caught in a wire.

“We received a call on June 23 about a stray horse that had a wire around his leg. The people send a location pin with photos and waited there until our team arrived.

“We immediately jumped in the vehicle and set off to rescue the horse,” said Wetnose representative, Veronica van Greunen.

The Wetnose staff is dedicated to helping Spartan with a great recovery.

After sedation of the lovable horse who is now part of the Wetnose family, they managed to remove the wire from his leg and realised that the wound was at least a few days old.

“We decided to name him Spartan because he is a fighter and a warrior. Spartans represent what our team did by working together as a unit. He is home now,” said Van Greunen.

The team cleaned the wound and Spartan was given pain medication and antibiotics.

“We had to sit and wait for him to wake up so that we could help him stand up and guide him into a stable.

“Our team finally got him in and settled in his stable and packed up to go home at 21:00 to our own homes, families and animals,” said Van Greunen.

Spartan still has a long road to recovery but the team has faith that he will be well soon.

“Anyone who wants to help us with the costs of his treatment can either use our ABSA bank account or our PayFast link. Please use the Ref: Spartan,” concluded Van Greunen.
