Sasol invests in soccer teams in Secunda and area

Teams receive soccer equipment at handover event.

Sasol, in partnership with the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation (DCSR) handed over sports equipment to 40 soccer teams in the Govan Mbeki municipal area at the Sasol Recreation Club on Thursday, June 23.

All the teams that received the sports equipment are affiliated with the South African Football Association (SAFA) Men’s Regional League.

The equipment included soccer balls, soccer training bibs, football cones, first aid kits with bags and soccer nets.

Sasol’s head of Community Affairs, Mashudu Ndou, said: “As a responsible corporate, we are committed to implementing life-changing projects in our fence-line communities and beyond.

“For many decades, sport has been a unifier and it has a way of promoting positive thinking and behaviour among young people.”

Sasol has been supporting and promoting youth participation in sports for many years, thus ensuring that young people are discouraged from engaging in social ills such as drugs and substance abuse.

Ndou said, therefore, it is no coincidence that Sasol is handing over this equipment during Youth Month.

“Our mandate as a department is social cohesion and development of sports in the province,” said Thandi Shongwe, MEC.

“Government has the responsibility to reach out to all communities, hence the need to work with companies like Sasol to fulfil this mandate.

“We are therefore excited about this partnership with Sasol.”
