eMbalenhle Police make several arrests

Constable Busi Mthethwa said these men were charged with possession of suspected stolen copper cable and police are busy with the verification of their country of birth then they will appear in court soon.

Four undocumented foreign nationals were arrested by eMbalenhle Police on Thursday, June 23.

The cops arrested the men after being told that the foreigners were seen stripping copper cable in Ext 21.

According to the police, these foreign nationals were found with the 689 kg copper cable with an estimated street value of R700 000.

Const Busi Mthethwa said the men were charged with possession of suspected stolen copper cable.

The police are in the process of verifying their countries of birth and they will soon appear in court.

Another two foreigners from the Democratic Republic of Congo were arrested for selling a car at eMbalenhle Mall.

According to Mthethwa, these men were selling a car for R50 000 when the legitimate owner arrived and pretended to be interested in buying the vehicle.

After he was given a price, he went straight to the police station and reported the men who were selling his car at the mall.

The police then arrested the suspects.

They were charged with the possession of a suspected stolen car and they will also soon appear in court.

Mthethwa said the car had been reported as stolen in Harrismith.

In another case, a 42-year-old man was arrested for selling dagga in eMbalenhle.

The police’s crime prevention team under the leadership of Sgt Thembi Motaung arrested the suspect after receiving a tip-off.

Mthethwa said the man was found with 82.20kg of dagga and he was arrested and charged with dealing in dagga.

He will also soon appear before the court.
