Ezaseladuma celebrates Youth Day in eMbalenhle with a message

“Young people should use this holiday to discuss the challenges with which they are faced, such as unemployment and how to fight drugs and alcohol abuse,” said Dladla.

The Ezaseladuma Art Group celebrated Youth Day by creating doing awareness about drugs, teenage pregnancy and alcohol abuse at eMgodini, eMbalenhle on Thursday, June 16.

According to Howard Dladla, art director, they decided to use this day to build up young people who forgot about their future and who are only focused on the things that destroy them.

Dladla said June 16 is now celebrated in a wrong way because some of the young people wear their school uniforms, but go drink alcohol in taverns.

“We ask ourselves what went wrong with our youth, when they are sitting in taverns in their school uniforms to celebrate June 16.

“Young people should use this holiday to discuss the challenges with which they are faced, such as unemployment and how to fight drugs and alcohol abuse,” said Dladla.

“They must come up with a strategy to approach the government to assist them with their future dreams, either business incubation or to further their studies.

“We want young people to understand that this holiday is not for drinking, but to start something in life,” said Dladla.

Dladla said young people should face their fears, not hide behind alcohol and drugs.

This art group is a multi-award-winning art group in Mpumalanga and is more involved in drugs, alcohol and teenage pregnancy awareness programmes in schools.

“Today’s youth should know that the decisions they make will either build or destroy them.

“When we won a Naledi Award in 2004, which is an international award with our play called “We versus Crazy,” we realised that everything is possible as long as you know what you want in life,” said Dladla.
