Two women die in accident on road between Kinross and Kriel

Seven others sustain injuries.

Two women have died and seven others have suffered minor to moderate injuries in a collision between a taxi and a bakkie at the intersection of the R547 and the R580 between Kriel and Kinross, May 24.

ER24 spokesman, Ross Campbell, said their paramedics arrived on the scene at 09:21 along with the Fire Department, traffic and other private services.

“Two women believed to be in their 30s or 40s were found lying outside the taxi showing no signs of life – they were declared dead on arrival by both ER24 and another service on-scene.

A 50-year-old woman was also found lying some 50 meters from the taxi having suffered moderate injuries. She was treated and transported to Evander Provincial Hospital for further care by ER24,” said Campbell.

According to him, six other adult patients were treated for minor to moderate injuries and transported to the same hospital by other services on the scene. Both the driver of the bakkie and the taxi were uninjured in the incident and declined transportation to hospital.

The police were also on the scene for investigations.
