eMbalenhle Police learn how to handle a fire

You can only use a fire extinguisher once.

Police learned about different types of fires during a fire drill at the eMbalenhle Police Station on Friday, May 6.

eMbalenhle fire station officer, Dan Dhludhlu, who was conducting the fire drill, explained to the police about the importance of knowing the types of extinguishers to be used when there is as fire.

“We have four types of fire, A class is a combatable material, B class flammable liquid, C class electrical fire and class D is metal fire.

“That is why we have different extinguishers for different fires,” he said.

“Once you use an extinguisher, you cannot use it again before it is refilled, because it will have no pressure to extinguish another fire,” said Dhludhlu.

Const Busi Mthethwa, eMbalenhle Police spokesperson, said there are new things that they learn from the Govern Mbeki municipal fire department who organised the fire drill for the police.

Mthethwa said the members now know how to evacuate the building when it is on fire and types of extinguishers that are used for different fires.

“During the winter, eMbalenhle is experiencing shack fires that either take people’s lives or destroy properties,” she said.
