Govan Mbeki Municipality Executive Mayor, Nhlakanipho Zuma, said the municipality had made serious advancements with revenue generation.
They have already begun to audit electricity meters and everything related to the selling of electricity after winning two cases against IDEAL Solution, a company that was contracted to the municipality to sell electricity on its behalf.
Zuma said they were now in the process of terminating the contract with the company.
“We have received the supply group code used by Eskom to detect or identify meters that are supposed to get electricity. We are in a process of changing SGC codes for all electricity meters within our municipality.
“We will install a new meter where there is no meter. We have begun with that process in Bethal and eMzinoni where we installed more than 400 meters.
“We have been installing them in households and noticed that the process has a positive impact on revenue generation,” said Zuma.
The SGC is allocated to a geographical region of pay meter installations to isolate the installation based on a unique vending key.
The benefits of this were that the payment meters in one SGC are isolated from payment meters in other regions, thus allowing payment meter management by regions.
Should a vending key be compromised, this would affect only that region of payment meters.
In addition to this, it allows for the SGC owner to allocate multiple vendors of prepayment tokens for those regions only.
