Developers have to remove illegal structures and ground heaps

Municipality set deadline.

The developers of the new complex in the green strip area between Steelpoort Street, Sabie Street and Wilge Street began to remove the illegal structures builders put up there next to people’s houses.

Residents complained about these illegal structures and said the dwellers living there were making noise and polluting the area with empty bottles and said it has been going on for months.

The Ridge Times did an article on this issue and DA Councillor, Mariaan Chamberlain, also visited the site and informed the relevant departments at the municipality.

Chamberlain and the municipal Department of Planning, Development and Building Control were supposed to meet the developer of the properties at the site on Wednesday, but he did not show up.

He said he was being held up and would only be in Secunda later.

Chamberlain and the Department then met with the site manager who said they will ensure everything is removed and that the building site is clean and neat by Friday, April 8.

Some of the illegal structures were already removed by Friday, April 1, but all the sand heaps were still there.

Chamberlain and the Department of Planning, Development and Building Control also looked for electricity, water and sewage connections when they visited the site, but could not find anything and the site

manager was instructed to provide proof of payment and the legal connections of these items within a few days.

If the developers do not meet all the requirements, including the ground heaps to be removed by the due date, all development will be stopped.
