Sasol donated necessities to Basizeni School in eMbalenhle

“This type of school makes sure that children with special needs reach their dreams through education and as a company, we assist where we can to support schools like Basizeni.

Sasol recently visited Basizeni Special School in eMbalenhle through their programme called ‘Sharpening the Pencil’.

According to Sasol, the programme aims to sharpen the future needs of learners with special needs.

Mashudu Ndou, vice president: Sasol Corporate and Community Affairs, said educators who teach in special schools have a noble calling because they also take care of those learners with special needs.

“This type of school makes sure that children with special needs reach their dreams through education and as a company, we assist where we can to support schools like Basizeni.

“I know some of them do woodwork because is their passion,” said Ndou.

A group of concerned individuals realised 38 years ago that an urgent need existed for a school in eMbalenhle that can cater for children who were unable to cope with the demands of the standard school curriculum.

These children often suffered ridicule and neglect as a result of their disabilities.

In 1990 the Basizeni Special School started out with only seven learners, has since mushroomed through the enthusiasm and dedication of the staff and parents who were determined to make a difference in the lives of these children.

This was a dream come true for the community of eMbalenhle.
