‘GMHC forensic investigation is incomplete,’ says mayor

Govan Mbeki Municipality’s executive mayor, Nhlakanipho Zuma said the forensic investigation into the Govan Mbeki Housing Committee is incomplete.

Cllr Zuma said the company that had been tasked to investigate, was given 60 days to complete the probe.

According to Zuma the investigators failed to complete their work They were granted an extension by the acting municipal manager, Lizzy Tshabalala.

The mayor also said they are not satisfied with the outcome of the preliminary report of the investigation and he recommended the report to be accepted or acknowledge while the municipality will go back and check if the outcome of the report explains the relations between the Govan Mbeki Housing Company and the municipality.

Cllr Zuma said the council needs not to grant that investigation firm another extension as it has failed to produce good results.

Councillors agreed that the municipality should hire a competent company that specialises in forensic investigations that will provide with council with good report.

“Concerning the proposals that were put forward by councillors, administration should provide council with a report on processes in procuring a suitable qualified forensic investigation firm so that we can be able to monitor progress moving forward.

“Supply chain processes will follow after the report is tabled to the council,” said Cllr Zuma.

Cllr Zuma also warned members of council to monitor all the decisions taken in the council meetings and make sure that they are implemented by the administration or adopted by the council.

He said the section 106 forensic investigation report has also captured that some council resolutions are not implemented by the municipal administration.
