Bogus attorney appears in Bethal Magistrate’s Court again

Themba Doctor Nkwindyika remains in custody.

Mr Themba Doctor Nkwinyika, the man who allegedly pretended to be an attorney at Bethal Magistrate’s Court in December, appeared in court on charges of fraud on Friday, December 24.

His case was postponed to Thursday, January 13 for further investigation.

He did not apply for bail and will be kept in custody.

Mr Nkwindyika, was arrested at the court on Friday, December 17 after he failed to provide the necessary documents to appear in Bethal Court as an attorney.

He went to the Bethal courthouse on December 17 and told the staff he was there to represent a woman accused of theft.

Mr Nkwinyika’s conduct sparked suspicion and the court officials asked for his papers to be allowed to appear in court as a lawyer.

He failed to provide these papers and first said it was in his vehicle outside. He later said his wife left with his papers.

When he was told to ask his wife to send a photo of his papers, he wanted to withdraw from the case.

Mr Nkwindyika was instructed to get his gown and withdraw from the case officially by saying it in court, but then he disappeared.

The police patrolled the area around Bethal and found him hitchhiking outside of Bethal.

They picked him up and took him back to court where he was arrested for fraud.
