Suspect remains in custody for hijacking and dealing in drugs around Bethal

During his court appearance on all three cases, the car hijacking case was remanded to January 4 for further investigation and the other drug dealing case was remanded to February 4 to be joined with the other accused who were arrested in July.

Mr Jamvier Ramazani (30) was remanded in custody by the Bethal Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, December 28, after he was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation and Secunda Crime Intelligence.

He was arrested on Tuesday for car hijacking , dealing in drugs and conspiracy in dealing in drugs.

Information about an outstanding wanted suspect in Operation Dream On, a major drug dealing investigation in Bethal in June, was followed and the suspect was traced and arrested at his hiding place in eMzinoni.

There was an intelligence operation conducted in July 2021 where 10 suspects were arrested and Mr Ramazani evaded the arrest.

During further investigation, the suspect was linked to another case of dealing in drugs which happened in May 2018 at eMzinoni.

He was also linked to a case of car hijacking which happened in Bethal in July this year.

Eight of these accused were released on bail with strict conditions, and two were denied bail and remained in custody.

The acting provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Brig Ramakgoakgo, applauded the team and the public for working together in the fight against drugs abuse within the community.

The brigadier urged the public not to get tired in reporting crime which is happening around their neighbourhoods.
