Watson abandons application for bail

A memorial service was held for Ms Fourie at the Gereformeerde Kerk in Eendracht on Thursday, November 18.

With his head bowed down in a courtroom packed with family and friends of Ms Angelique Fourie (27), as well his own family, Mr Christopher Watson listened as his attorney, Mr Zakir Rasool, called to abandon the bail application in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, November 17.

It was an emotional time for the loved ones of Ms Fourie who wore T-shirts with a photo of Ms Fourie that said “Stop GBV against women and children.”

Mr Watson, who is accused of the murder of Ms Fourie, made a brief appearance in the court and the matter was postponed for further investigation until January 18, 2022.

He will remain behind bars.

A memorial service was held for Ms Fourie at the Gereformeerde Kerk in Eendracht on Thursday, November 18.

Ms Fourie was brutally murdered in her home in a Terra Nova Village complex, in Trichardt, on November 7.

Mr Watson had fled the scene with the couple’s daughter and later dropped her off at his sister’s house on the morning of November 8, before fleeing the Teks area.

He handed himself over to the Norkem Park Police Station in Kempton Park on November 9 and was escorted back to Secunda where he is now being held at Bethal Prison.

Ms Fourie’s autopsy revealed that she had been stabbed multiple times in the left side of her neck.
