Bullied 12-year-old from eMzinoni tries to commit suicide

“The learner was rushed to hospital after drinking paraffin and leaving a suicide note in which she stated the reason why she wanted to die,” said Sgt Mtsweni.

A 12-year-old girl wanted to commit suicide because she was bullied at school.

According to Sgt Cynthia Mtsweni, spokesperson for eMzinoni Police, they were conducting school safety and bullying awareness campaigns in different primary schools when they discovered the incident.

“When we arrived at one of the primary schools, we received a complaint of a 12-year-old learner who wanted to commit suicide because of other learners who were bullying her every day after school.

“The learner was rushed to hospital after drinking paraffin and leaving a suicide note in which she stated the reason why she wanted to die,” said Sgt Mtsweni.

Sgt Mtsweni said both parents and the school safety committee will be interviewed and disciplinary actions will be taken against accused learners.

She also said parents must be involved in their children day-to-day life and always check on their behaviour when they return home from school to prevent their children from committing suicide because of he or she feels neglected.

The campaign was conducted by eMzinoni social crime prevention and the Community Policing Forum (CPF).
