GMM unveils new tipper trucks

The mayor said the five tipper trucks cost the municipality more than R6.5 million and are ready to work.

Govan Mbeki Municipality’s executive mayor, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma, said the municipality is intensifying service delivery by procuring more equipment rather than hiring.

He said this when he handed over five new tipper trucks at Secunda Fire Station on Wednesday, September 22.

The mayor launched a cleaning campaign that is known as Ijima Lokuhlwengisa last year December, with the aim to clean all municipal spaces such as towns and townships.

He said the council is ensuring they use fewer service providers and focuses on having sufficient capacity to deliver services.

“We are unveiling these five trucks for the purpose of re-gravelling roads and waste removal, particularly the heaps of waste that we see all over the place.

“We know that by so doing, it will bring changes in services delivered to our communities. We are also pleading with the community not to damage the infrastructure that belongs to them.

“We also urge our employees to treat the municipal service delivery machinery or equipment with care,” said Mr Zuma.

He hopes the community and consumers will from now on see the municipality in a different light and that the municipality will be able to meet some of the desired service provision targets.
