“He was the best dad ever” – son after dad passes away of Covid-19 complications

He added there was a time when his father was really sick and the doctor told them that he was only going to live till the age of 40 but, God blessed him with another 10 years to spend with his family.

ERMELO – Mr Kobus Grobler, a man with a heart of gold and a legend in the eyes of the Ermelo Remote Control Vehicle Club members, passed away on August 27.

Mr Grobler died due to kidney and heart failure while he had Covid-19.

In the words of Mrs Lizette Grobler and Mr Lional Grobler, his wife and his only son, he was a gentle giant.

They both said that if there was one word that would describe him perfectly, it would be “phenomenal”.

He was a man that loved to help others and at times used to put others before himself. Two things that were important to him were family time and time with God.

“He was a religious man who trusted the Lord’s plan with most of the encounters he experienced in life,” Mrs Grobler said.

She said a rule he lived by was to never go to bed with unresolved issues. “No one was allowed to go to bed if the issues were not resolved. He did not like conflict and we hardly ever argued.”

Lional said his father was the best guide in terms of life lessons; he would always advise or teach him the right way of doing things.

“He was the best dad ever,” he said.

Lional said there were many times his father had been sick, but he never complained or showed his pain.

“Even when he would be in pain, he would still ask everyone else around him how they were they doing.

“He had a big heart and cared about those around him,” he said.

He said once his father was really sick, and the doctor told them that he was only going to live to the age of 40, but God blessed him with another 10 years to spend with his family.

He made a huge impact in their lives and lived by the motto of love not costing a thing.

Mr Grobler had a big passion for RC racing and managed to leave a footprint in the heart of all his fellow club members.

Mr Wors Breytenbach, the vice chairman of the Ermelo RC Club, began RC racing at a young age and said, “Mr Grobler saw potential in me and motivated me to compete in numerous national RC events.”

He added that Mr Grobler was not only an RC legend for their club, but that he was also the father of it.

“Were it not for him, the club would not have existed.

“He will be missed in the RC circles,” Mr Breytenbach concluded.

Mrs Grobler said she received phone calls from people who sympathised with her, but that she did not even know some of them.

It was that very moment she realised the impression he had made on the lives around him.

“We would like to thank everyone who walked through the journey of life to the end with my husband, and a special thanks to Mr Lardus Botha.

“Thank you to all our friends and loved ones that prayed every day. Please don’t stop praying for us, as your prayers are keeping our broken hearts together.

“Thank you for every phone call, SMS, WhatsApp message, plate of food, love and care.

“Our family appreciate it so much.

“Please love your family and spend quality time together, as you never know when the hourglass’ time run out,” she concluded.
