WoF firefighters deployed to Canada to assist with firefighting efforts

Fire fighter and management of the Working On Fire (WOF) programme for the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Enviroment, have been deployed to Canada on August 10.

According to Ms Amanda Mthembu, spokesman for Mpumalanga WOF, a total of 109 firefighters and management were deployed to assist with firefighting efforts.

This is the programme’s fourth deployment of firefighters to Canada.

•Walter Khoza – ground operations manager for Highveld region

The firefighting delegations consists of:

•Sibusiso Ngobeni – type 1 crewleader of the Mlambongwane team •Sphilile Khumalo – Piet Retief team

• Bongani Sifunda – Barberton team

• Siphesihle Makhubu – Wakkerstroom team

• Sipho Mlotshwa – Badplaas team

“Prior to their departure, the firefighters and management underwent refreasher trainin in Stone Ridge in Gauteng to ensure that they are fit and ready for the conditions expected in Canada,” she concluded.
