More than 800 suspects arrested in one week in Mpumalanga

These cases ranged from stock theft, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, murder, rape, robberies, and assault with an intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.

Police in Mpumalanga arrested more than 880 suspects between 3 May and 9 May.

Some of the suspects were given fines whilst some already appeared before various courts throughout the province.
 
 Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, spokesman for Mpumalanga Police, said: “The integrated security formations’ quest is to ensure that citizens as well as their property are safe, community members is hereby requested to work with police.”
 
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Maj-Gen Thulani Phahla, has reiterated the call for communities to obey the law and report all criminal activities to authorities.
 
He warned community members to refrain from protecting family members who commit crime.
 
Gen Phahla said: “Hiding family members while you are aware the police are looking for them, simply means you are working in cahoots with them,”
 
MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Vusi Shongwe, applauded the Mpumalanga police.
 
He said that the Department will continue to mobilize communities to help in the fight against crime.
