Mother, three children killed in shack fire in Ext 33, Ermelo

On arrival, the fire fighters observed a one-bedroom-shack engulfed in flames.

Three children and their mother lost their lives after their shack went up in flames on 4 May in a blistering inferno.

The incident happened at Ext 33, Acasia.

Ms Nompilo Ngema (40), Lethu Kuhlase (9), Lindokuhle Kuhlase (7) and Aphiwe Nkosi (3) were trapped inside the burning home.

Ermelo Provincial Ambulance Services and Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Services were dispatched to the scene at about 12.22am.

On arrival, the firefighters observed a one-bedroom shack engulfed in flames.

After they received confirmation from bystanders about the people inside, the firefighters immediately began extinguishing the fire.

Unfortunately, they could not rescue the occupants in time.

Ms Ngema’s family described her as a loving mother with a good heart.

She was the children’s primary caregiver and also took care of her oldest sister.

Lethu and Lindokuhle were learners at New Ermelo Primary School.
