Nurses from Standerton joyfully reunite

The conclusion was that an urgent need exists for a primary health care facility where individual care can be given to pregnant women.

A reunion of nursing staff took place at Appledew Guesthouse, Standerton on Saturday, 20 March.

Ms Stella Khumalo, former senior nursing sister, described the occasion as fun-filled.

Altogether 15 nursing professionals who worked at the Standerton Hospital since 1981, covering a period of 25 years, were present.

Some of them arrived from Johannesburg, Volksrust, Mbombela (Nelspruit) and eMalahleni (Witbank).

Also present were another three, who still work at the hospital.

“We reminisced about all the experiences we had,” Ms Khumalo said.

Especially the matrons Coetzee, Enslin and Viljoen, running the facility, were fondly remembered.

The group decided on meeting at least twice a year and not to lose touch with one another.

They not only had a good time, but brainstormed about challenges in the medical profession nowadays.

The conclusion was that an urgent need exists for a primary health care facility where individual care can be given to pregnant women.

“We envisage a one-stop-facility where antenatal and postnatal services are available,” she added.

Any health care worker interested in the group’s plans, can contact Ms Khumalo at 083 462 3637.
