Lancet workers rush to help man who suffers heart attack in front of Evander Magistrate’s Court

The two heroes are Messrs Johnathan Stanger, a courier who transports Covid tests to the Lancet labs, and Ayaka Maya, a registered nurse.

Officials at the courthouse in Evander hailed two workers from Lancet Laboratories heroes after the duo rushed to the aid of a man having a heart attack outside the court building this morning, 6 April.

Adv Tracy Horak-Keen said the man collapsed in front of his wife who then began to scream for help.

“We just want to thank the two employees from Lancet who immediately came to help,” she said.

The two heroes are Messrs Johnathan Stanger, a courier who transports Covid tests to the Lancet labs, and Ayaka Maya, a registered nurse.

According to Mr Stanger, they collected samples at local doctors at Evander between 9am and 10 am, and were about to head out to Kriel when he heard a woman screamed.

“We saw the man on the ground and it was pure instinct to stop and help,” he said.

He immediately turned the car around.

“Ayaka, being a trained nurse, turned the patient on his side and pulled up his knees. He kept the patient calm the entire time,” Mr Stanger explained in short what they did.

The pair waited with the patient until the Evander EMS arrived.

Mr Stanger was glad they could help.

Adv Horak-Keen and her colleagues called Mr Stanger and Mr Maya heroes.
