Mr Christo Botha, paramedic of EMS, said this tree saved lives today.

A truck ploughed through the fence of the SAVF old age home in Ermelo and came to a halt after crashing into a tree, mere metres from a resident’s home tonight, 26 March.

The tree blocked the truck from crashing into the aged resident’s home.

Mr Christo Botha, a paramedic of Ermelo EMS, said this tree saved lives today.

A collision between the truck and a bakkie at the intersection of Fourie and Kerk Street caused the truck to veer into the direction of the old age home.

An accident between a truck and a bakkie took place at the corner of Kerk and Fourie Street in Ermelo on 26 March.

According to Mr Botha, the driver and passenger of the bakkie were checked out on the scene by EMS.

They sustained slight injuries.

“The driver of the truck was lucky to sustain only moderate injuries to the head. ER24 transported him to Ermelo Provincial Hospital,” Mr Botha said.

The Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue, EMS, Ermelo Police officers, Traffic officers, ER24, ETS Towing and Van Wettens Breakdown Services were on the scene.
