GMMs new machinery will combat waste dumps

Mr Zuma said the used money that was saved by the municipality during the time of Covid-19 outbreak to buy the two front-end loaders.

SECUNDA – Govan Mbeki Municipality’s executive mayor, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma, handed over two front-end loaders that will assist in the fight against illegal dumps.

The mayor said the decision to buy this machinery was taken when they realised that the municipality is spending too much on hired equipment.

“We are on a journey to clean our towns and townships, we are removing all garbage in all corners of our communities.

“The clean-up campaign continues, and I’m still appealing to our local businesses who want to assist, to come forward and volunteer with their machinery,” said Mr Zuma.

He said they used money that was saved by the municipality during the time of Covid-19 outbreak to buy the two front-end loaders.

According to Mr Zuma, their aim is to reduce financial mismanagement within the municipality.

He also pleaded with residents of Govan Mbeki Municipality to be patient with the waste removal schedule because the municipality is facing a challenge of having old trucks that are supposed to collect waste, but sometimes there are breakdowns and that is why there are times they are unable to collect waste.

“We have 15 waste compactor or waste collection trucks that are at the workshop waiting to be fixed and there are times when there is a gap in waste collection,” concluded Mr Zuma.
