Legal proceedings delayed again for Bethal

In hopes that history will not be repeating itself, there are also no new development in the community’s law suit - if anything, there has been delays.

BETHAL – There is still no new development regarding Bethal and eMzinoni electricity woes, and with winter fast approaching, residents fear it will be another cold and dark season.

In hopes that history will not be repeating itself, there are also no new development in the community’s lawsuit – if anything, there have been delays.

Bethal and eMzinoni Community for Services (Becs) said they are still going full steam ahead with their legal action.

Mr Ziyaad Dangor, media spokesperson for Becs told Ridge Times that their attorneys are now in the process of seeking a court date for the hearing to continue.

“I again remind the public that this process is a lengthy one, but the only legal avenue available to residents to fight for justice,” said Mr Dangor.

The legal process was delayed by Govan Mbeki Municipality who had not filed their responding affidavit in time.

The now acting municipal manager, Ms Kotishana Elizabeth Tshabalala, said the reason for the delay in response was that there was no one to sign for the legal documents.

GMM posted its latest load shedding schedules for March on their Facebook page and the community had a lot to say to GMM regarding these schedules.

“Please, this municipality is bankrupt and cannot afford to fix this problem and the residents have to suffer for your incompetence,” said Bethal resident Mr Wim Janse van Rensburg.

“Take the advice from the meeting per the DA and FF Plus and step down and let someone else try to fix the mess you have placed us in.

“It is embarrassing, I would bow my head in shame for the empty promises and lies you have told,” said the resident.

He said that if they have water then they have no electricity, and if they have electricity then there are problems with the water.
