Volunteer welfare worker and orphan she mothered for eight months reunited after 20 years

She was curious as to where she was and on which paths life took her, so Ms Ferns began searching the web for any trace of her. Ms Ferns searched social media and wondered what the possibility would be to recognise her after so many years.

Ms Saretha Ferns who volunteered at an orphanage 20 years ago, have been reunited with a girl she mothered for eight months.

Ms Ferns looked after and cared for the girl during her time at the orphanage.

“If a new child came in, we had the responsibility to take care and provide for them to the best of our abilities,” Ms Ferns said.

“God called on me to make a difference in the lives of children and this innocent child was the first I had to look after,” she said.

From sitting to crawling and eventually taking her first steps, Ms Ferns and this little girl shared invaluable memories together.

The main purpose of welfare workers was to have a positive impact on children during their time at the orphanage – even though they would most probably never have any recollection of their time there.

Ms Ferns who had several photos of the little girl recently took a walk down memory lane.

She wondered what had become of the child and prayed for her safety.

She was also curious as to where she was and on which paths life took her, so Ms Ferns began searching the web for any trace of her. Ms Ferns searched social media and wondered what the possibility would be to recognise her after so many years.

In the search results on Facebook, there was a person who had a profile picture of a little girl and Ms Ferns immediately realised it was her.

She then sent her an inbox message and was fortunate to receive this response: “I am really blessed to have someone like you who still remembers me and actually reached out to me.”
