Govan Mbeki Municipality’s residents suffer water throttling

The water pressure is throttled with 40 per cent.

SECUNDA – Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA Councillor, said it seems as if Rand Water will take the same route as Eskom.

“They are no longer happy with only the current account being paid,” said Ms Chamberlain.

Govan Mbeki Municipality must also pay some of the old debt.

Ms Chamberlain said for now we will also have only a certain amount of water allocated to the municipality.

“Once we exceed it, they will restrict us with more per cent until they are happy with the payment.

“Water pressure will restore overnight as no one uses water at night.

“As soon as the demand picks up, less water will be available, even to lower-lying areas.

“This situation will carry on until both parties have come to an agreement.”

She urged residents to make provision for water for the weekend.

The water pressure is throttled with 40 per cent.

According to Ms Chamberlain, the current situation thus far affects Secunda, eMbalenhle and Kinross.

She said these areas will receive water in the evenings for the duration of the restrictions. Other areas that have restrictions will be monitored. In the interim, the finance department will engage with Rand Water.
