EVANDER – Gert Sibande TVET College’s Evander campus unveiled their Tyre Fitment Centre programme on Friday, 4 December.

The programme is called Isiqalo Tyre Fitment Centre which means “the beginning”, and is intended to train and capacitated graduates from this college with practical skills.

This programme was sponsored by the Transport Education Training Authority who supplied the required machinery.

Ms Portia Mange, the principal, said the college is now ready to take part in the fight against unemployment because this centre will provide practical skills and work experience to their graduates.

The students will be working at the centre and will receive monthly stipends.

She urged all local motorists to support this initiative by taking their cars for tyre fitment as the money received will be used for the students’ stipends.

Govan Mbeki Municipality executive mayor, Mr. Nhlakanipho Zuma, said they feel great about this centre as it will eradicate unemployment.

“The students will get practical experience as well as a stipend and it will assist them to become future employers, not just employees.”

Mr Zuma also said the municipality will find ways to work together with the centre for municipal cars to be brought to this centre for tyre fitment. “That will be our only way to contribute.”

He urged the public to support the Isiqalo Tyre Fitment Centre. The centre will be officially opened next year.
