Lesotho national from Evander is guilty of killing five people in armed attack near Ogies

Upon arrival they opened fire and killed four farm residents before they fled the scene. Two other two victims were rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds. Only one survived.

HIGHVELD – Teboho Thokoane (38) was convicted on five count of murder in the Middleburg High Court on Tuesday 15 December.

Thokoane and other three men hired a vehicle from Evander to Steyn farm in Ogies on 12 October 2017.

Upon arrival they opened fire and killed four farm residents before they fled the scene.

Two other two victims were rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds. Only one survived.

The police opened five cases of murder and one of attempted murder.

The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga Police, Lieut-Gen Mondli Zuma instructed that a tracing team from Witbank be assembled to investigate the farm attack.

The investigation led to the arrest of Thokoane at Evander.

Whilst looking for the remaining suspects, the investigation team was notified of a fight that took place at Evander where the said suspects were all killed.

Thokoane, who is a Lesotho national was trialed and found guilty on five counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, one count of illegal possession of firearm and one count of illegal possession of ammunition.

His case was postponed until 8 February for sentencing.
