Rand Water lifts restriction by 20 per cent in Bethal and eMzinoni for now

This is a six month trial only between Govan Mbeki Municipality and Rand Water.

HIGHVELD – For residents of Bethal and eMzinoni there will be a slight relief with the water situation during the festive season.

According to DA councillor, Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, Rand Water lifted Region One’ restrictions to 20 per cent from its low level of 40 per cent water throttling.

In recent weeks, Bethal has been bearing the brunt of water throttling, leaving some areas completely dry for weeks.

Residents had to use other alternatives sources for water, such as Jojo tanks which are situated at the AC Vorentoe Church in Regent Street.

Although water tanks were also made available, the supply of water remained questionable.

“This is a six month trial only between Govan Mbeki Municipality and Rand Water. GMM will need to uphold this payment agreement,” said Ms Chamberlain.

The remainder of GMM will continue with the 40 per cent water throttling.

Ms Chamberlain asked residents to please remain patient when reservoirs are filling up.

“Remember the reservoirs were empty, it needs time to fill up as well as the network.

“If you do not have water please be patient, it will restore,” ended Ms Chamberlain.
