The candidates contesting this by-election are Ms Terry-Lee Kleynhans for the DA, Mr Boy Fanie Mabena for the ANC and Ms Nelly Mamogobo for the EFF.

SECUNDA – Residents of Ward 30 in Govan Mbeki Municipality will head for the polls on Wednesday, 11 November to elect a new Ward councillor.

This Ward, one of the largest Wards in Secunda, was previously a DA- stronghold and the seat of Ward councillor was occupied by Mr Tim Denny until his resignation earlier this year.

Ward 30 includes the areas around Hoërskool Secunda, Dr Raman’s rooms, FiveStar SuperSpar and Hoërskool Oosterland, Highveld Park High School and Laerskool Kruinpark.

The candidates contesting this by-election are Ms Terry-Lee Kleynhans for the DA, Mr Boy Fanie Mabena for the ANC and Ms Nelly Mamogobo for the EFF.

Laerskool Kruinpark and Hoërskool Secunda are the two voting stations in the Ward and will be open from 7am to 9pm.

The Independent Electoral Commission said the by-elections will be held under strict new Covid-19 protocols aimed at ensuring the safety of voters, election staff, party agents, observers and other stakeholders.

These include implementing strict social distancing practices outside and inside voting stations along with the use of hand sanitisers as voters enter and exit the voting station.

Voters must take along their masks and valid ID documents before they will be allowed to vote. Voters, election staff and all those entering the voting station will be required to wear a mask at all times.

Voters are also encouraged to bring their own pens to mark their ballot papers, although pens will be provided and sanitised after each use.
