Rape cases are being reported daily at eMbalenhle Police Station.

eMBALENHLE – Police raised concerns over the sharp increase of rape cases in the area.

Cases of rape are reported daily in eMbalenhle and police said most cases involve children.

Const Busi Mthethwa, police spokesman, said they have called on the community to take a stand against women and child abuse.

She said police are working around a clock to apprehend suspects on these cases and are also conducting awareness campaigns on gender-based violence.

In a recent incident, a 14-year-old girl was raped while she was asleep at her home in Extension 18.

According to the police, the victim was shocked when she woke up and noticed dirt on her body.

She looked around and found that a door was forced open and the windows were open.

She suspected that she had been raped and was taken to the doctor for a check-up. The doctor confirmed the rape.

Her phone and other items were also stolen.

In Extension 26 a nine-year-old girl has been raped numerously by her brother since April.

It is alleged that the suspect called the girl into a room where he showed her pornographic videos and then raped the child.

According to the police, the victim reported the matter to his father, but he assaulted her for that.

Another nine-year-old girl was raped in Mandela Section.

It is alleged that the suspect sent the victim to the shop and upon her return, he grabbed the child and dragged her to his house and raped her.

Police are also investigating another case of rape where a woman was allegedly raped by her father and fell pregnant.
